Here's how I tricked my body into drinking more water.
For the most part of my life, I've been told my skin would improve if I drank more water. But no matter how much I tried I couldn't commit to training myself to drink more than a litre a day. There were days where I've gone with just 500ml and I shudder at the thought of those ignorant times.
Now I know that you already know about the innumerable reasons to drink at least 2 litres/ 8 glasses of water a day so that's not what you're going to read about here.
A mistake made while forcing myself into the 8 glasses a day schedule was that I would lose count of how many I drank or how much I was drinking or even just finishing the glass in one sitting.
Another was relying on smartphone applications that hit you up with a daily reminder to drink up. Boy, did that do the opposite!
Anyway, my point is no matter how much of a conscious effort I made to "drink lots of water" it was never enough. Mind you, I was never one of those that "didn't like the taste of water".
Cut to the part where I moved houses and after settling in, realised that the water jug being used was a bit too fancy (and too heavy) for everyday use. Decided to go for a simple water bottle which could be carried around easily.
While scouring through the options available online, my conscious directed me to settle on a simple glass bottle. Not plastic because BPA and not metal because it's harder to clean. When my order finally arrived, the 600ml glass bottle in its cute blue sleeve looked better than I expected.
Now, what really surprised me was noticing my drinking habits drastically change. The size of the 600ml bottle looked pretty standard on the outside, but the rate at which I managed to finish the bottle was surprisingly fast. By noon I was on my second refill, and by night I was just about finishing my fourth!
Alright, so was I just super thirsty that day? Nope.
Going forward, my body stuck to the 4 bottles a day like clockwork. That meant I was getting around 2 litres of water daily which was perfect for my BMI. Like some sort of Christmas miracle, this became my new normal.
Who knew finding the right water bottle would set me on the right track to fulfilling my daily requirements!
A word of caution, always assess your bodies water requirement. Several sites online will help you do so. If your urine is faint yellow you're on the right track. Colourless pee throughout indicates that you're drinking way too much water than your body requires of you, so cut back or you will end up diluting the sodium content in your blood which is not a good sign.

I am what one could call a fan of water if there ever was one, glad to see an article on keeping a tab on its daily consumption. I think I too will now be trying to have atleast a rough record of its intake.
ReplyDeletePS. Digging the teal sleeve on the bottle. Cheers!
Hahaha water consumption should be fun, instead of feeling like a task!
